Instructions for the transmission of the 1934 Anzac Day Greetings: AB-GA-34.

Button In addition to the instructions provided in the Post Office Monthly Circular for March 1934 shown on the form page for the Anzac Day ornamental greetings telegram, the following details were also included to deal with issues of transmission and receipt:

"The following instructions should be carefully noted by all concerned:

(i) Any officer transmitting telegrams should indicate to the receiving officer that he is about to commence the transmission of an Anzac Day greeting telegram by signalling the prefix "ZGS" if the message is for delivery, or "ZGX" if for onward transmission. The special Anzac Day greeting telegram form shall be used only for terminating traffic;

(ii) On multiplex and teleprinter channels it is undesirable to stop and change from the roll to the sheet forms, and therefore Anzac Day greeting telegrams should be received on ordinary roll forms and be subsequently copied, the receiving officer underlining the prefix in pencil and handing it to the Officer-in-Charge for copying. On machine routes where manual channels are also available it would be preferable for Anzac Day greeting messages to be dealt with on manual channels when the volume of this traffic justifies such a course, in order to eliminate the cost and time lag associated with the copying process;

(iii) Any officer receiving an Anzac Day greeting telegram on an ordinary form for onward transmission should underline the prefix with two horizontal stokes in order to attract the attention of the transmitting officer thereto;

(iv) In order to assist in the preparation of statistical information regarding these telegrams, the officer responsible for recording particulars of originating and terminating telegrams should insert the remark "ZG" in the remarks column of the relative statements".
